Magnesium Citrate

-More common form of magnesium 

-Good for raising body's magnesium levels

-Bound in citric acid

-Found in citrus fruits

-Absorbed in the digestive tract

-May help with anxiety and depression

-Has a laxative effect and may treat constipation

 

Magnesium Oxide

-Magnesium with oxygen

-May help heartburn and constipation

-Body does not absorb this well

-May prevent migraine attacks

 

Magnesium Chloride

-This includes chlorine

-Body absorbs well

-May treat body's low levels of magnesium 

-May be used topically for sore muscles

-Can be taken orally to treat heartburn or constipation

 

Magnesium Lactate

-Bound with lactic acid

-Produced in the body by muscle and blood cells

-Manufactured as a preservative and flavoring agent

-Good for those that do not tolerate other forms of magnesium

-Easier on digestive system

 

Magnesium Malate

-Includes malic acid (found in fruits and wine)

-Very well absorbed in the digestive tract

-Replenishes magnesium levels

-Has a less laxative effect that other forms

-Typically recommended for fibromyalgia, and chronic fatigue 

 

Magnesium Taurate

-May regulate blood sugar levels

-Can support healthy blood pressure 

 

Magnesium L-threonate

-salt formed from magnesium and threonic acid ( a water soluble derived from vitamin C)

-Easily absorbed by the body

-Brain benefits: may manage depression, alzheimer's, and age related memory loss

 

Magnesium Sulfate

-This combines magnesium, sulfur, and oxygen

-Also known as epsom salt

-Can be dissolved in bath to soothe sore muscles and stress 

-Sometimes found in skin care products

-Absorbed best through the skin

 

Magnesium Glycinate

-Combines magnesium and amino acid glycine

-Found in meat, fish, dairy, legumes

-May improve sleep

-May treat inflammatory conditions like heart disease or diabetes

-Calming properties 

-Helps anxiety, depression, stress, and insomnia 

 

Magnesium Orotate

-Includes orotic acid, a natural substance used in the body for genetic construction (DNA)

-Easily absorbed with no laxative effect

-Promotes heart health

-Popular to use amongst athletes 

-More expensive than other forms

-Can improve energy production in the heart and blood vessels
